High School Reunion
So like most of my old friends who loved shoegazers, I went to see My Bloody Valentine at Roseland. Being that I saw them in high school, I felt it was my duty to see them play, reunited, upteen years after the fact. All alone at the show, no less. I am a dedicated fan, after all, and I knew Cali was a bit too far away from NY to see this show out there with my high school best friend.
But, at least I went to see them in NY. And really, who needed to talk to friends at the show, if only in between songs, when my ears were bleeding from the wall of sound? (In my down time, I looked around to see that there were other dedicated oldies alone at the show just like me. So it wasn't all that bad. ) MBV skillfully performed an encore-esque 20 minute long song that sounded like a jet engine roar of distortion. The feedback/reverb/noise was so loud that it made my throat feel like it was closing up, bones rattle, and hair stand on edge. Amazing performance, and just about one of the best shows I have ever seen. All that was missing was my shoegazing partner in crime. Next time, I will let the lure of a travelling to LA for a reunion tour get the best of me.
