Close to the world series, yet again. So here I am, actually rooting for my (childhood) home team: The Phillies, of course.
Saw this great factoid on the NYTIMES blog about baseball today : "Skip ahead to this October, with the Philadelphia Phillies now in the World Series, which they will try to win for the first time since 1980. I sent my friend a text message today asking, “Have you noticed that 08 is the inverse of 80?” He shot back: “How could I not?”. End Quote. Since the 80s? Yikes. No wonder we are bypassing Tastycakes while watching the game at home, and opting for softpretzels & beer at the ball park. Or at least I wish I was. And where, oh where, is my old Phillies hat from that game at the old Vets Stadium? Sigh. Let's hope the boys win once and for all , and make Pete Rose proud!
Besides, Boston doesn't have this loveable mascot like WE do! How can you not LOVE him? Mr. Met is a complete and total Costanza-like dork compared to this green fuzzy friend o'mine. The local news stations back home, channels 3 and 10, both dedicated a segment to their morning news shows just to showcase his frenetic antics. Does Boston do that? Nope. How about Tampa? Losers! NY doesn't even do that, not even on NY1's Whipple's World! And for that very reason, I think Philly should win the World Series.
Enjoy.
